NOORDHOEK - situated at the foot of the famous Chapman's Peak Drive on the Atlantic side of the Peninsula, is well known for its splendid beach, its charming rural atmosphere and the awesome mountain and sea views. The village is about a 25-minute drive from Cape Town central (30km).
It also boasts excellent restaurants and shopping facilities and there is an exhausting list of activities for those who enjoy being busy. On the beach one can enjoy surfing, horse riding, whale watching and long walks.
For those interested in the history of ships and shipwrecks, about three kilometers along the beach is the SS Kakapa which was wrecked here on the shore on the night of 25 May 1900. Miraculously, no lives were lost on this her maiden voyage from Swansea to Sydney. Or if you are more of a mountain person you would be spoilt for choice with so many different hikes in the area. Otherwise enjoy a good meal and a glass of wine under the leafy oaks at one of the many restaurants.
